Answer:
Only Ortho Tri-Cyclen and Estro-Step are currently approved by the FDA for acne.

I've been prescribed both by dermatologists for acne.

They did help as my acne was still present even after a course of accutane.

If your acne is very hormonally driven, it could help.

Your dermatologist would know best.

I don't want to sound too much like a preachy grownup here, but you are very young. Why not try putting off sex for a few years? You won't have to worry about sexually transmitted diseases or pregnancy that way. You can still be close with boys. Just avoid those activities that will give you diseases and pregnancy: intercourse, oral sex, and anal sex.

On the other hand, if you're already having sex, I'd say your absolute best option, at such a young age, is condoms and spermicide. You can get both of those things at any drug store or discount store. Your parents don't need to know about it and you'll be protected against pregnancy and STI's.

However, if you're having sex, you definitely need to see a doctor. Unfortunately for us ladies, that's one of the things that comes with sexual activity: the dreaded pelvic exam. Go make an appointment with your family doctor or call up your local Planned Parenthood and see if you can't get in for an appointment right away. They'll take a look at you and let you know if you're healthy or if there's anything you need to be concerned about. Also, while you're there, ask the doctor or nurse about your birth control options.

I've actually worked at a Planned Parenthood before. They hear these questions all the time from girls your age, so don't be embarrassed. Just ask. They'll let you know what your best birth control option is and they'll also explain how you can prevent sexually transmitted infections.

Remember that maintaining good health is important, so take care of yourself.

Unlike most of the other people who have answered I can't seem to find the part about you wanting birth control so you can have sex…

What I'm seeing is you want to take birth control to clear up your acne.

If your acne is hormonal then birth control might be the best answer.

If you are wanting to get on birth control for more than just acne problems (pregnancy prevention or to regulate or alleviate period symptoms) then go see your doctor for birth control.

If you are thinking about birth control for acne alone I'd suggest a visit to the dermatologist. This would probably be a better first step in acne management.

As for which kind of birth control is best, nobody on here can tell you that. There are many different pills out there and your body is going to react differently to each one than the next person's body will.

When I started taking birth control it was because I had started having sex. I never had great skin but with the pill my skin did clear up a little. Then I stopped taking birth control for about 6 months. In that time my skin broke out more than it ever had before. When I started taking it again it cleared up. The reason my acne got so bad and then cleared up was not because of the pill type but because the pill made my body have a consistent level of hormones. Because my body did not know anything different before I was on the pill my acne was not that bad. After having regular hormones (the pill) then not having them my body went crazy.

I am telling you about my experience so that you might see why I am advising you not to look into taking the pill as your first choice of acne management.

If you are truly looking for only management go see a dermatologist. You don't want to start messing with your body's hormones if you don't have to.

Answer:
This is something that should be discussed with a Gyn or his nurse who can explain to you the pro's and con's of each type particular to your needs and health factors. You can visit different websites and read up on their products but this is something that would be better decided AFTER talking with a Dr. Everyone is different, what works best for one, may not be good for the next person.

Answer:
Best choice is ABSTINENCE.

If you are just looking for acne treatments, try that one they always advertise, ProActiv. I know a couple people who tried it and said it worked great.

If you are saying you are already having sex, the best BCP option that also helps acne is Ortho-Tri-Cyclen. You should still be using condoms, there is more to be feared from having sex than having a kid…

Answer:
The pill can help with acne but you will gain weight possibly. Why dont you just try acne meds instead of birth control? You're too young to be having sex and birth control is more expensive than some proactiv

Answer:
At your age, I'm not sure you should be taking birth control that early. If you only want it for acne, then go to a dermatoligist. Sex shouldn't be on your mind at your age!!

Answer:
Well for starters try not sleeping with anybody and you won't get pregnant lil' girl! :)
