In current years the two fields of doctors are pretty much hard to distinguish because of the training for both being so similar on many levels, but one of the big differences between doctors of osteopathic medicine and allopathic medicine physicians is that the DOs do manipulations of the body much like a chiropractor would but much gentler.
And even though DOs might also specialize in specific areas of Medicine like MDs they’ll also look at the entire body to see if something going on in one part of the body could be affecting another area. Whereas an MD would look more at the specific area like say an arm and focus on just that area for treatment instead of checking to see if something with the foot could have something to do with what is going on in the arm (an example only, but sometimes a problem in the upper body when there’s pain can be as a result of a problem going on with the foot).
