Im not sure if this really works but my Grandmother has problems with her legs all of the time (Charlie Horses she calls them) and she was told to put a bar of soap underneath her sheet in her bed and sleep on top of it. She told me its the best thing shes ever done! (she uses Zest bars). Its a kind of a home remedie or old wise tale type thing but who knows… also potassium should do wonders (like u said, banannas!).
