I have depression. Crying constantly. Mild Ocd- can cope with that though. Paranoia.
I've tried floxitine, summin' else forgot the name of it and I'm on citalopram but its caused really bad paranoia and obsessive behaviour.
What do you think will work for me?
Answer:
There are 4 different major classes of anti-depressants, MAOI's (not used often anymore), the TRA's tricyclic antidepressants like Elavil, Tofranil, and Pamelor, and the SNRI's (selective neurepinephrine reuptake inhibitors) like Effexor and Cymbalta, and the SSRI's (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors)
This class, the SSRI's is what you’ve been on, these include prozac, paxil, luvox, zoloft, lexapro, and celexa.
Since the SSRI's haven't been working for you, you need a combination med, or a different class (not an antidepressant) of med.
The SSRI's are causing you to have symptoms that are more schizoaffective. I have seen this a lot in children misdx ADHD and that are bipolar, and adults dx with major depression and are bipolar or schizoaffective. It is possible that you are misdiagnosed. Many people newly dx as depressed are because that is when people seek help when depressed. You could be bipolar, or schizoaffective, both have depressive components and would explain why the antidepressants aren't producing the desired effect.
What I would try is not another SSRI, I would try xanex (antianxiety) this is broad spectrum meaning that it helps most people regardless of disorder, and will help with the OCD. Lamictal is used for bipolar and it works for most people, plus it is used for children, and during pregnancy. Risperdal and Seroquel are what I like to use best for paranoia. These also work on most people.
What I would try for you is Effexor (2nd choice Elavil) and risperdal (2nd choice Seroquel), maybe with xanex.

I suffered with clinical depression for over 15 years. What finally worked for me was:
1. Gestalt Therapy which helped me discover who I’m and why I’m who I am and how to accept the things I can't change about myself,
2. Learning meditation from my local Buddhist Centre where I found a whole bunch of NON-JUDGEMENTAL people who accepted me for who I’m (first time in my life) and who have helped me to become less self-critical. Buddhism isn’t a religion, more a way of life, and it has turned mine right round. For the first time ever, I consider myself to be happy!
3. (Sorry) - Citalopram. This doesn't mean it's the right medication for you ……. it took years of trying what seemed like each drug under the sun before I was prescribed it.
I don't know if any of this has helped, but I hope it does. There IS a way out of depression - I am living proof of that! I wish you lots of luck - go out and meet some new people and go simple on yourself!
Answer:
No antidepressant is ideal. It is finding what’s best for you. For someone that has no chemical imbalance, a pill won’t be ideal.
With meds they all affect different people differently. There are lots of classes of antidepressants, and many kinds in each class. If you have bad side effects from one, speak to your Dr, because it isnt right for you. Im on welbutrin which does wonders for my depression and my anziety….though for some people causeing anziety is a bad side effect. Its just a matter of finding whats right. Also, if you’re only seeing your GP, see a psychologist….they’ve more experience. Also even with meds seeing a therapist is important.
Answer:
Paxil will calm ur *** down. Start with 10mg for 7 days, then 20mg for 2 weeks, then finally 40mg from then on out.
It doesn't usually treat paranoia though. Just depression, OCD. What kind of paranoia are we speaking about? Paranoia might require Seroquel or Abilify, etc.
Answer:
The best antidepressant for you is the one your physician prescribes for you depending on your symptoms and what you tell him/her. If a medication does not seem to help, there are lots of more your physician can choose from. You and your physician are a team working together to help you feel better.
I hope you will feel superior soon.
Answer:
A puppy and some exercise. Getting active is a good way of getting happier without medication. Get involved in activities like an art class or find new hobbies. Talk to your doctor if you’re unhappy with your meds, but ask them about going without medication and see what they think.
Answer:
Take a B12 shot. Get your butt in shape. Go run. Get some exercise and start living your life without excuses for reasons you can't.
A tiny harsh?? Maybe. But, I see it all the time.

Answer:
There are different medications for different reasons. Not everything works on everyone. It is for a doctor to decide and not you.
I have been depressed a lot…with a handicapped child and a granddaugther that died…and I have been on anti depressents to help me through grief! I also know that when Kevin was in a coma and I was on antidepressants that I was also given B12 shots. When you are under stress you body depleats itself of the B vitamins which is greatly needed for mental health.
I don't advocate everyone rely on pills…people want instant help and not go through life facing it….but sometimes there is a chemical imbalance and antidepressants can replace it and help . You should still seek help to find out why you’re depressed and face life so you can get through it.
So many people have elephants in the living room…and they live in denial…knowing it is there…talking over it and around it and under it and hoping it will go away …but never acknowledging it is there…(meaning problems) so they dope themselves up instead of moving the damn thing and cleaning up their lives and mess!
Don't be a denier….get help with counseling and if they think you need meds then take it…but deal with your issues too or you’ll never get over depression!
