It is thought this part is the nerve centre for all fears and panics, so why not get it removed. They can help people with parkinson's etc, so why not that?

Answer:
Hello there,

The amygdala can be removed and are occasionally as a treatment for certain severe types of epilepsy. Their function is complex and associated with emotional learning and recognising emotional responses in other people. Removing them isn’t something to do at all casually. Good luck.

Answer:
Amygdala has been found to be associated with various things and not just anxiety. It is associated with memory, autonomic functions, sexual behaviour and emotional learning (to name a few) therefore without it these functions might deteriorate. Further more, anxiety has not just been associated with the amygdala but also the hippocampus and other areas in the forebrain therefore you'd have to remove all this just to make sure and this would have detrimental affects on the person plus would be rediculously pricey for a disorder that in the majority can be treated with beta blockers and other meds as well as psychological interventions like cognitive behavioural therapy. Also anxiety has a beneficial purpose as its healthy to fear things that are detrimental to our species survival and without the amygdala we would not be able to learn to avoid things like poisonous snakes, which is aided by anxiety.

Answer:
This is a silly question, to be honest.

1. Fear and anxiety can be necessary, and healthy emotions.

2. The amygdala does more than just make you anxious.

3. It's somewhat heavyhanded as a cure for anxiety, and risky in general.

Answer:
I dont think you should remove something like that. There could be some spiritual reason for anxiety. Ive had a lot anxiety in my life but I think there’s a bit more too it. Something maybe in your past that needs to be confronted or something right now.

Answer:
1) Because brain surgery is highly complicated and is associated with a lot of risks.

2) Because the Amygdala does more than just cause anxiety. To remove it for one reason only goes against the concept of Holism.

Answer:
Interesting idea, but all parts of the body are multifunctioning, its a case of 'throwing out the baby with the bath water' as they state!

You'd undoubtedly find some unwanted side effects

Answer:
Im going through a lot of anxiety right now. It's just part of being human, leave it as it is. God put it there for a reason.

Answer:
As humans we need anxiety for certain situation and to have the amygdala removed could get us run over by a bus
