My MRI shows a possible lateral meniscus tear as well as some degeneration. I went to an ortho and he thinks it's best not to do anything because the pain I’m having is medial and the MRI does not show anything in that area. Should I seek a second opinion) at this point I don't even want to be bothered with it anymore and will just ignore it)?
Answer:
Why not do both? Give it a couple weeks and see if the pain goes away. If it doesn't get superior, then seek a second view.
Answer:
Not all meniscus tears need to be operated upon. And, newer ortho literature points to there being no superior outcome in degenerative/arthritic knees with arthroscopic debridement than you get with physical therapy and judicious activity management. Your decision will also be based on your age, weight, regular activities/work. You can always go to surgery, but you can't reverse it after its performed.
