I started walking at a fast pace off and on everyday for 30 mins. (The trail equals about two miles) Since I started, I felt alot better, but for the past few days my knees have started hurting and have became very sore. It's hard to walk on them, and I can't put too much pressure on them. I can walk, but I can't run or jog. =/ Idk why..I stretched a bit and everything but why have my knees suddenly started hurting after like..a week or exercising? My stepdad says I probably pulled something but..in both knees? Please help. T_T I wonder If I'll need to go to the doctor or If I just need to relax for a few days?
Answer:
More likely you are developing tendonitis in the knee or patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS - big name for kneecaps hurting because the muscles are imbalanced in the thigh and are causing them to track irregularly across the end of the thigh bone). If you are tender in the thick tendon that attaches the lower patella (kneecap) to the shin, it is more likely tendonitis or bursitis (the lubricating sack underneath). If the patella itself is tender, especially when going down stairs or sitting for long periods of time, it could be PFPS. There are a few more unlikely possibilities, but the above three are more likely is someone who has just started exercise.
You can try icing your knees for 15-20 minutes after exercise and decreasing, but not stopping completely, your walking for now. If it continues to bother you or you are having other types of symptoms, it would be best to see your physician. Good luck with the exercise!
