We just recently noticed my 3 year old breaking out in to hives all around his mouth and almost to his eyes when he has peanuts. He has also struggled with what we were originally were told was impetigo and is now being called cold sores. Could the blisters he gets around his mouth be a reaction to an allergy? He had issues with milk as an infant but out grew them, is allergic to keflex and augmentin and we now suspect peanut butter and possibly strawberries. The blisters seem to come shortly after he eats strawberries the past 2 times. Is there a chance that the blisters are an allergic reaction and NOT cold sores or impetigo? Could food allergies cause blisters? They are small and filled with fluid. (not quite clear but not quite honey colored.) This time he has 5, and there was nothing last night before bed!
We’ve an appt with a allergist feb 10th.
Answer:
I am allergic to all citrus and break out with mouth ulcers in my mouth and fever blisters on my lips. You need to keep him away from peanuts and strawberries until you meet with the allergist. I keep benadryl strips on me at all times, since your son is little keep the perfect dose spoons on you. Even if he is to young for a full kids dose liquid benadryl gets rid of allergic reactions the quickest. When I break out in hives i put clearadryl (has benadryl) on a cotton ball and rub it on me.
Answer:
Allergy is rather a vauge word here. While it is certain that Hives don’t present as vesicles,it does and can happen that irritant dermatitis,or a contact dermatitis to fruits could present as a bullous localised rash.
Answer:
Having any dermal reaction to those foods might mean a SENSITIVITY to them as opposed to an actual 'allergy.' Like people aren't really allergic to milk, but lack an enzyme to digest it. Restrict him from eating these things.
Peanut butter and strawberries are common foods that cause sensitivities. I myself have always eaten strawberries, but when I ate too many at a strawberry festival, I woke up with a rash. Ah, well.
p.s. - when I eat anything with apples, my mouth itches, my lips swell and I vomit within 20 minutes. each reaction can be different.
