I got my results back from allergy testing and I was prescribed with an Epi-pen.

I'm asthmatic and just found out that I'm allergic to dust, barley, corn, crab, lobster, oats, rice, shrimp, strawberries, yeast and honey.

Has anyone who is scared of needles used an Epi-pen before? When do you use it? I’m scared of needles and am nervous about being prescribed one.

Answer:
You only use the pen if you’re having a life threatening reaction to something you are allergic to. This isn't anything you are going to have to do except in an extreme emergency. If you are going into respiratory arrest, please believe me fear of an needle is going to be the last thing on your mind.

Don't worry, you’re going to be trained how and when to use it.

I have had to use one on a friend of mine when she was stung by a wasp. The jab is over in a second and she was luckily ok. The epi pen gave us enough time to get her second pen/dose and get professional help. The part where I had to actually stick it in her leg wasn’t that bad. I was more worried about grabbing the wrong end and sticking myself! (although it is clearly marked, I can act stupid in an emergency, lol!)

and even more worried about her!

you may want to consider teaching a good friend or two, a neighbor, and a instructor (if you are still in school) how to use them, just in case you can't help yourself. Be sure you let everyone know where the pen can be found (in your purse or wherever) so precious time isn't spent searching for the pen.

Hope this helps!

Answer:
when I was a camp counselor we practiced using old epi pens in oranges to get an idea how it works. maybe your physician can train you howblike that. from there keep it with you at all times, and even though you probably won't need it, trust you'll have the courage to face your fear. Report Abuse

Answer:
Poke the needle in the abdomen area less sensitive. If thats ok for that medicine. Ask your Physician. Im a diabetic it took a half hour to give myself the first shoot you get used to it.

Answer:
Its not a needle, its a tiny tube you jam into your thigh right before you pass out while having a bad allergic reaction.

Answer:
yea. u use the epi pen when ur having a really bad allergic reaction. just stab it into ur thigh. sure it hurts but its better than dying from the allergy.

Answer:
would you rather die or take the pain for a few seconds

your gonna use it
