If I comprehend, thick bar training & thick grip training are the same thing? or is one superior than the other? thanks
Answer:
Yes. One refers to the actual device ( thick bar ) the other refers to the effect ( thick grip ). They are often used interchangeably.
Here's my original answer to “why is my trainer recommending “thick grip” training?” …
“Thick grip/thick bar training creates a large training stimulus for the arms leading to greater adaptation (improved strength & muscle gain).
It can also be used to prevent/rehab injury …Grip strength plays a major role in injury prevention and rehabilitation. Elbow pain is often caused when the flexors in the upper arm (biceps brachii and brachialis) becoming too strong in comparison to the forearm flexor (brachioradialis). Here is more info on that…

As for the 'fatgrips' you mentioned, they’re tool used to create a 'thick bar' training effect leading to greater strength and faster muscle gain ( http://fatgripz.com ) as the vast majority of gyms will NOT have thick barbells or dumbbells due to their cost.”
Answer:
same thing. when you go back to a smaller bar, your grip will be better. so if your grip is your weakpoint, you will lift heavier. if your grip isn’t your weakpoint, your lifts won’t improve.
