My orthodontist says that I’m going to have to wear rubber bands in my braces. How long do you usually have them on and are there any recommendations you’ve for dealing with them?
Answer:
I had a huge gap between 2 top teeth so I had a spring AND rubber bands. Sometimes I had to wear them between the top teeth, sometimes between the top and bottom teeth because I didn't have enough of an overbite. Sometimes I had 3 bands in my mouth at once. I think I had them for about 6 months out of 24, and roughly around the middle of that time. Be aware that there are different sizes as well, so if you have a smaller size it's going to be harder to speak and I wouldn't state it injured but it might cause your mouth to feel a bit tense. You should probably carry a small mirror with you to help with putting them back on after meals, until you're able to do it by feel.

i had gotten rubber bands in october, and i was supposed to get them off in november/december, but i ended up not wearing them, and im finally getting them off this april, but , dont eat with them, you can drink in them and sleep in them, but make sure you always wear them! usually when you get rubber bands, your probably a month or two away from getting your braces removed.

it depends on your overbite. wear them all the time and take them off when your eating or when you brush your teeth. wear them when sleeping and you can drink in them. you dont have to take them off unless it requires you to open your mouth wide or bite. wear them all the time or else your have to put them on even longer and when you put them back on it will hurt even more. to deal with the pain take tynenol or something for toothaches. it feels just like when you first get your braces except you cant really open your mouth at first.

For me it was six weeks. I didn't wear them much so when it came to the next appointment they told me another six weeks. So just make sure you wear them the exact amount of time they say or you will have to wear them even longer.

I got mine from the middle of the time I wore my braces, till I got them off. Just make sure you wear them all the time, so you can get your braces off on time.
