I am freaking out. I am getting on a plane Thursday night for a 10 day vacation (within the US). Yesterday, I started having tooth pain and went to see the dentist. He could not recreate it with his bite plates which didn't surprise me because it only happens randomly when I'm eating that I get a sharp shooting pain. He advised me to see a root canal specialist which I'm seeing this day. They’ve me scheduled for a consultation and a root canal but I feel like I'm in a lose lose. What if I get an infection or some other complication from the root canal - then I'm on vacation. On the other hand, can it wait 10 days? Any thoughts.
Answer:
get a referral from either dentist where you live for a dentist near where you’re going.
get your current dentist to give you a prescription for pain, just in case, and get duplicates of your records and xrays, anything a new dentist might need. (just in case)
Answer:
I would not wait, I was on vacation with root canal pain and it was no vacation.
Get the root canal (they're no large deal) and
make sure you have a prescription for antibiotics and get it filled b4 you leave. Also stock up on painkillers just in case.
99.9% of the time the pain is absolutely gone after a root canal procedure.
Enjoy your vacation.
Answer:
roort canal can be performed in one visit now if the pulp (tooth nerve) isnt infected, temporary filling may eliminate pain but its not secured i can withstand mastication forces during ur 10 days vacation, so i suggest either 1 visit root canal treatment, or just pulling out the nerve of the tooth and finish it after u r back, assuming u will keep ur temp filling intact
Answer:
No youll be fine. they should give you pain meds and antibiotics after your root canal for preventative care. Just make sure to take all the antibiotics and you will be fine
A root canal is a very minor procedure
Answer:

Root canals are not as bad as you think! I was scared to death to have one and it turned out it wasn't any worse then having a cavity filled! I hope this helps!
