i wear braces for nearly 2months now, but , lately a friend told me that i've to be extra careful with food because certain foods (especially vegetables..i luv them..) will stuck between the braces and the teeth, then the teeth will rot..? i mean rot because of the bacteria that emerged from the reaction of foods and teeth. . is this true..?

Answer:
you’ll need to put in extra effort to keep your teeth clean by proper thorough toothbrushing.

tooth decay happens because the bacteria produces acid from the food. it does not occur overnight, i takes about 2months or more to cause damage.

so you can prevent decay by the following ways:

1) prevent food and plaque buildup

brushing and flossing ( using interdental brush / superfloss / or floss threader) regularly

2) use flouride toothpaste

flouride can make the teeth stronger

3) visit your dentist regularly

4) reduce intake of sugary food stuffs/ drinks

veg is fine

or confined them to mealtimes.

the smile you’re investing on requires care!

ALL the ideal!

Answer:
Yes it is true if you just leave the food in there to rot, but if you brush and floss your teeth (esp brushing) it doesn't matter at all. Try to cut food up a little more though, like don't eat out of an apple, for different reasons- it can break your wire or bracket after a while.

Eating vegies is good. =)

In fact even if you don't brush your teeth (but you really should!) if you drink something then that would get most of it out anyway.

Answer:
As long as you brush your teeth as you would usually 2-3 times a day you should be completely fine. I think your friend is simply trying to scare you.

Answer:
well if you dont brush your teeth-duh

ive had braces for four years

and nothing bad has happened

just keep them clean :]

Answer:
Yes……it's true.
