Well I got it in on Wednesday and today's Monday so I really need advice. Yes, I can sort of eat now and I don't speak that strangely anymore. At first I was whining to go back and take it off. But then something clicked in my head and I decided to go through with it. I mean the worst part is when you get it in right? The only question I’ve now is how long is it going to be in for? So if you’re nice enough to post back a reply can you please tell me how you dealt with all of the extra metal in your mouth and when it comes off. Thankies!
Answer:
well I had a herbst appliance, and mine was in for about 15 months but yours may not have to be in for as long. you’ll eventually just get used to all of the xtra metal in there, and before long you won't really notice it that much. Sometimes when they take it off it feels like they’re pulling your tooth out with it, but don't worry my teeth are fine now! it helped correct my jaw, so the tiny bit of pain is well worth it! as far as the bars on the side coming out it is annoying at first, but eventually I figured out how to pop them back in with my tounge very fast and easily. definitely use the wax as well, that helped be a lot. hope u feel better soon!

i had one of those and after a while you really get used to it. I had mine on for exactly one year. As far as dealing with it, it gets annoying if the bar comes out of the tube so dont open your mouth too too far when eating massive sandwiches and stuff. and if that does happen just work with it, and you can put it back together. But on the depressing note, i still have an overbite, i dont think that thing really works all that much. Seven years later and i think im back to where i was. and an overbite isnt even noticeable so i dont know why they’ve those things. But like i stated after a while you dont even notice its there until the bar pops out of the tubes on the side. The worst part is definately when you get it put on, so your good there. Taking it off isnt bad they just grind the metal caps off your molars. It kinda sucks cause the metal goes everywhere but it doesnt injured, it just awkward having it done. oh and use that wax stuff on the parts that are irritating your mouth when you sleep, it really helps reduce the cuts in your mouth until your skin gets used to it, then it never cuts or hurts.
