Braces Problems…Ugh!?

Author: admin

I just got my braces on last week, and my mouth is still in pain. I cant really chew anything at the moment, so I was wondering if any other brace-faces like me(just kidding, braces are cool) have any suggestions on what i could eat. Im looking for types of like mushy food, like pudding, stuff I dont have to chew. Im looking for stuff to put in my lunch for school. I dont want any answers telling me what I shouldnt eat, I already know.

Answer:
I ate a lot of chicken noodles when i got braces. You could take that in a thermal flask or some other soft type of pasta in a pot. Seedless grapes or bananas are quite soft foods which you can eat. Some really soft muesli bars should be fine.

I know how you feel it felt for me like I had a rock stuck between my teeth for the first week, but after that it should be fine.

And here's what I found doing some research:

Suggestions By Category:

Dairy:

Smooth yogurt, or yogurt without a lot of chunks. You could also take chunky yogurt and puree it in a blender to break down the chunks. Also, try the new yogurt in a tube, available at most grocery stores.

Various soft cheeses, such as brie, cottage cheese, and thinly sliced Swiss, cheddar, harvarti, etc.

Milk-based drinks

Custard

Pudding

Breads and Baked Goods:

Any type of soft bread that does not have seeds, nuts, or pieces of whole grains. If you like whole-wheat bread, look for one that has a smooth texture. Tear off the crust if necessary.

Muffins without nuts or chunks

Corn bread, corn muffins

Soft cakes

Tortillas (corn and flour, microwaved or steamed until soft)

Pancakes

Saltine crackers and matzo are often soft enough to smoosh at the roof of your mouth with your tongue

Grains

Couscous

Quinoa

Pasta

Noodles

Soft-cooked rice, risotto

Bulgur

Kasha

Farro wheat (cooked very soft like risotto)

Polenta

Matzo balls

Grits

Meats and Poultry:

Soft-cooked chicken

Bar-b-que type soft cooked meat

Meatloaf

Chicken salad

Thinly sliced lunch meats

Meatballs

Many meat recipes that you make in a crock pot or pressure cooker are very tender

Chicken nuggets cut into very small pieces

Meat Alternatives:

Tofu can be made in many ways and is always easy to eat.

Seafood:

Soft-cooked fish

Fish croquettes (salmon, tuna)

Fish loaf (tuna, salmon)

Tuna, salmon, or whitefish salad

Frozen flavored fish filets

Crab cakes

Fish sticks (non-crunchy, cut into small pieces)

Soups:

Look in your local grocery store for soups that either don't contain chunks, or have very mushy ingredients.

Vegetables:

Soft-cooked carrots, squash

Mashed potatoes

Potato pancakes

Smooshed potato salad

Cole slaw

Spinach or corn soufflé (Stouffer's makes a frozen one)

Fresh spinach, chard, kale, or other greens, cooked very soft or steamed and cut up.

Avocados, guacamole

Salsa (non-chunky)

Beans (mashed it necessary)

Hummus, various Middle Eastern dips

Fruits:

Mashed bananas

Applesauce

Baked apples

Fruit juice, juice smoothies (protein powder can be added)

Other ripe fruits that get mushy

Treats:

Ice cream without nuts or chunks, frozen yogurt, sorbet, sherbet, granita

Milkshakes, smoothies

Most cold drinks make your teeth feel better - iced tea, iced coffee, etc. But be careful not to inadvertently drink too much caffeine!

Soft cakes

Cheesecake that has been microwaved for 30 seconds to one minute (it gets a bit mushy and easier to eat)

Cream pies

Jell-O (gelatin)

Custard or flan

Pudding

Shakes and Bars:

Protein shakes, Slim Fast, etc.

Zone Perfect Bars (when you can chew a little bit. These are the least chewy protein bars I've found so far, with a texture like Rice Krispy Treats).

Answer:
Hello fellow teeth-straightener! I've had my braces for exactly two years (they told me I'd have 'em off by now, Note: Add a year to the time they say you'll get them off!)

When I first got my braces, or had more put on or tightened, my mouth was in horrible condition, but it's definitely worse the first ever time.

Okay, I think I was stuck to kind of chewing food by squishing on the roof of my mouth with my tongue. Pretty weird, but surprisingly sort of fun… But anyway, what to eat? Well, while you're at home, I'd try soft foods like bananas and jello. Actually, you'll eat surprisingly well due to your braces, if you stick with what you're aloud to eat. (Yeah Right!) But back to the subject, when you're at school, I would bring softer foods like the bananas and the jello, (put it in a Glad container or somthing). Here's a list of nice things to eat:

Soft fruits-bananas, peaches, plums, strawberries

Bread—-no crusts! *yes!*

Yogurt. This is PERFECT for lunch, snacks, and breakfast.

Cereal- but only the kind that's soft and mushy from being in milk too long, so maybe you might want to pass.

Liquids like Soup in a Thermos or one of the Diet Smoothie things, I think Special K makes them.

Answer:
HI, no braces here just 3 kids I had to pack lunches for that had them so.

1. Applesauce comes in small cups and different flavors. The fruit cups aren't bad either once you feel you can chew better.

2. Yogurt comes in all kinds of flavors even chocolate if u have a sweet tooth.

3. Peanut butter. The only problem with this is it really gets into the braces and you need to brush after ( u should anyways)

4. Cups of soup , if you can access a microwave. ramen any of that is soft. If there is no student access to a microwave at school you might be able to get someone on staff to nuke it for you if they undersand why you need the soft food. If not a parent note or doctor note usually gets them to do it :).

5. Beefaroni, spaghetti O's and such come in lunch packs too. So does kraft mac and cheese.

6. Egg salad, even tuna and chicken if they are chopped up fine. Just don't add the celery and anything else that might irritate you right now. I used to put the meat in food processor, just enough so it was fine, don't cream it (yuck).

7. My kids favorite of course was ice cream and pudding, I am sure you have tried them both :)

If you are in too much pain please call your orthodontist maybe he/she can make some adjustment that will help or give you some wax that you can apply to the braces.

Good luck and just remember it will be worth it in the end.

Answer:

Answer:
It took me a few weeks to get used to it, i just took a sandwich and broke it into pieces instead of biting it and then gradually got to harder food.

Hope this helps =]

Answer:
Your mouth will continue to hurt for awhile. They're trying to get used to your mouth and ur mouth is doing the same. Just remember, when they move you are another step closer to your pretty smile. It hurts but It will be worth it in the end. try not to eat sweets or hard candy. They will break your wires.Eat a lot of fruits. I get mine off sometime this year.good luck!!!
